Based on Kalki’s acclaimed novel “Ponniin Selvan”, lead director Mani Ratnam is directing Ponniin Selvan in two parts. It has been officially announced that the first part ‘Ponniin Selvan – Part 1’ produced by Laika Productions will hit the theaters on 30th September.

Actors Syan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Trisha, Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Prakash Raj, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, Lal, Jayaram, Rahman and others are acting in this film. Vikram as Aditya Karikalan, Karthi as Vandiyathevan and Jayam Ravi as Arunmozhi Varman. Aishwarya Rai as Nandini and Trisha as Kundavai.

The music for this film is composed by A.R. Rahman composes the music. Cinematography by Ravivarman ISC. In this case, the trailer and music launch of the film was held in a grand manner at the Nehru Indoor Stadium. In this event, a lot of screen celebrities like global hero Kamal Haasan, superstar Rajinikanth, directors Shankar, Myshkin, actor Siddharth, actress Aditi Rao attended the trailer and music launch of Ponni’s Selvan.

Superstar Rajinikanth, who attended the event, shared interesting facts about Ponni’s novel Selvan. Speaking at that time, Rajini said, “I usually read a book by counting the pages. They said that the five parts of Ponni’s Selvan are 2000 pages. I told them not to.”

Only after that, in a magazine in the 80s, someone asked a question about who would be suitable for the role of Vandiyadevan in Ponni’s Selvan. Late former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa responded to this, saying Rajinikanth. I was happy to know this. After that I started reading Ponni’s Selvan. If Kalki was present, he would have fallen on his feet,” Rajinikanth remarked with emotion.
